Route of administration: For external use only.
Adults, elderly and children over 2 years old:
Apply directly or with moistened sponge to the affected areas and work up a rich lather. Allow to remain on the skin for three to five minutes, then rinse off thoroughly with warm water and dry with a clean or sterile towel or gauze. Repeat twice daily until improvement is noted. (Afterwards use twice weekly).
Children under 2 years old: Limit use to 2-3 days.
Rarely, hypersensitive skin reactions may occur (e.g. delayed contact-allergic reactions, which can appear in the form of itching, redness, small blisters or similar manifestations). Involvement of other organs has been reported in isolated cases.
In single cases acute, generalized, allergic reactions with drop in blood pressure and/or shortness of breath (anaphylactic reactions) have been reported.
The long-term use of Povidone-iodine Skin Cleanser for the treatment of wounds and burns over extensive areas of the skin can lead to a notable uptake of iodine. ln isolated cases, patients with a history of thyroid disease can develop hyperfunction of the thyroid (iodine induced hyperthyroidism), sometimes with symptoms such as racing pulse or a feeling of unrest.
Following uptake of large amounts of Povidone-iodine (e.g., in the treatment of burns), the appearance of additional disorders of electrolyte and serum osmolarity, impairment of renal function with acute renal failure and metabolic acidosis have been described.
